Do Less

12 DAYS OF CREATIVITY
DAY 6

Oh yes, the Grinch of Being Busy.

As much as we complain, for many of us being busy actually feels good.

We don’t HAVE to do what we want to do.

That thing that actually scares us.

And we feel like we’re being productive.

Very often, this is another form of distraction.

If you’ve cleared your slate on Day 2, you may have experienced the rush of good feelings from having space and time, and then the dread of having to fill it.

Maybe you’ve managed to get some ideas going after trying some mashups on Day 5 or with the inspiration you gained from curating your influences on Day 3.

TODAY, TRY TO GO DEEPER BY DOING LESS.

Examine one of your existing tasks and apply your creativity to make it feel less busy.

I like to ask myself, “How can this be easy?”

It is amazing how this question helps you see more options.

A few Sundays ago Germany announced a lockdown. I was almost out of wood for heating my Berlin apartment. I learned the hardware store was not considered essential so I was in a bit of a panic about how to bring back enough wood to warm my place for a month.

At first, I thought of finding a friend who could rent a car for an hour and help me pick up the wood. Then I thought about walking to the store and calling a taxi to get back home. Neither option felt easy.

So finally I asked myself “how could this be easy” and a thought popped into my head, what about using my large suitcase. Perfect! That worked! And I had a nice hour-long walk to and from the store.

Today, see how you can leverage your creativity to do something with more ease.
